The first pluckings in Spring, generally March into May, are referred to as the first flush. The first leaves following the winter dormancy are plucked during this harvest . These leaves are usually more delicate and tender and so lighter , floral, fresh, brisk, and astringent in flavor. First flush Darjeeling are less oxidized during processing and so they generally appear more greenish in color than other typical Darjeeling black teas. This also helps preserve the flavour of the new spring leaves. It is these First Flush teas that are referred to as “Champange of Teas “ by the tea connoisseurs .
